Written in a seasonal chronology that spans the years through the Covid pandemic and its aftermath, the unfolding of these poems aims to offer the reader a tool, a bridge, a metaphorical torch in our human and primal search for relationship and community.
Tracking a soul journey, a pilgrimage, a spiritual and personal transformation, these lyrical narratives travel through the landscapes of the contemplative and poetic eye. Rooted in the intelligence of nature and symbol, they are forged with language that acts as light and resolution in the dark regions of our inner psyche. Both intricate and deeply human, central to this is the author's ability to find connection between the word - or logos - and the physical body.
Rebecca has infused these poems with a longing that echoes the essence of the mystical poetic tradition, grounded in her own experiences of the mechanics of love, betrayal and grief. A radical yearning that is, in the end, the wave that carries us to the edges of our ego, inviting us to let go into a far greater sense of self and our place in the world than we could imagine. The backdrop of her writing is the search for belonging and meaning through the beauty and challenge of being an artist compelled by the questions and tensions that exist between religious communion and individual freedom.
Following on from her first collection (At the Coalface, 2020) this new book seeks to explore a question: how can the body integrate these paradoxes so that the recognised patterns of trauma of our age, both personal and collective, can be unfrozen? How can each of us be released from the shadows and so become the instruments of 'painting with light’?
